Ask Dr. Michael:
Does Acupuncture Help Allergies?

allergies
Yes, acupuncture works well to reduce your body’s allergic reactions. Acupuncture can regulate the immune system to calm overly sensitive immune reactions such as allergies. Five Element acupuncture works very well for this issue because it treats the root cause of your body’s over-reaction. There are also acupuncture points which have been shown to have specific effects on regulating your immune response, which we combine with the root treatment to provide the most holistic benefit.

In addition to acupuncture, I use IgE environmental allergy lab testing and IgG food allergy lab testing. Environmental allergy testing is indicated when there is a certain season of the year that your allergies flare up and then calm down after that plant’s bloom cycle is over. For chronic allergy sufferers – those whose allergies are not limited to a specific time of year – food allergies may be the underlying trigger.

As a holistic doctor, I find the IgG food allergy testing to be especially important, since very few conventional medical doctors perform this type of food allergy test. You could be allergic to a certain food you eat so often you don’t even realize that you are having a chronic allergic reaction. IgG antibodies are long-lasting antibodies that are detectable in your blood much longer than IgE antibodies. IgG food allergy testing provides a more sensitive and accurate picture of what foods allergies and sensitivities you may have.

If you are suffering with allergies, whether from your environment or your diet, we can help you at the Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center. Call us at (904) 296-9545 to make an appointment to discuss your specific needs.
