Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2016

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As a healthcare practitioner, I’d give anything for October to be much more about Halloween than cancer. I’m sure anyone would. The medical community has made great strides in treating breast cancer, but it is still a diagnosis that over 300,000 women hear in their doctor’s office each year.
As medical doctors continue to make inroads in battling cancer and approaching a cure, acupuncturists are making great progress in treating the symptoms that stem from cancer treatment. We have all heard of the side effects of treatment, either by personally going through it or knowing someone who has. They include, but are not limited to, nausea, fatigue, hot flashes, brain fog and dry mouth. These can all be addressed by acupuncture so that the treatment a woman undergoes doesn’t have to make her feel even worse. Acupuncture can not only alleviate her ailments, but improve her all-around well being so that she can feel stronger and more capable of fighting this fight. The National Cancer Institute and National Institutes of Health have found acupuncture to be a safe and effective treatment for managing cancer treatment symptoms, and so many innovative cancer centers around the country are now integrating acupuncture into their protocol.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness, Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center is teaming up with the amazing organization, In The Pink, to provide free public education about acupuncture and the role it can play in a cancer patient’s treatment plan. Dr. Michael Kowalski A.P., Dipl.Ac. will be delivering his talk, Acupuncture for Managing Symptoms of Cancer Treatment, including a live acupuncture treatment demonstration, at In The Pink’s two locations. Come hear this engaging talk, and bring your friends. All are welcome!
- Thursday, October 20th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at In The Pink’s Jax Beach store. The address is 522 Third Street North, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
- Tuesday, October 25th from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Hill Breast Center. The address is 1235 San Marco Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
Another exciting community venture that our office is participating in, is the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk” on October 22nd! Dr. Michael and his lovely wife, Laura, will be walking in honor of all women and he will be joined by many of his office staff. If you’d like to make a donation, or even better—join our team, please CLICK HERE! We would love to have you walk with us! Everyone who walks for our team will get a free pink Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center T-shirt. Together, let’s fight cancer and make women feel better on their journey to recovery!
