Colon Acupuncture Meridian

By Michael Kowalski, A.P., Dipl.Ac.

One of the twelve organs/energy meridians we treat in acupuncture is the Colon meridian. The Colon meridian is a very important meridian because it is in charge of elimination. I am not just referring to elimination as a bowel movement, but also elimination on a mental, emotional and spiritual level – in other words, truly letting go.

Being able to let go is an important part of the grieving process. When we lose a loved one, it can be difficult to let go. We may try to avoid the grief by getting busier and distracting ourselves. However, if you suppress your grief it will not be healed. In order to heal from the loss, we need to allow ourselves to fully grieve, cry and let the tears flow.

When we hold onto negative thoughts or feelings, we have trouble letting go on a mental or emotional level. I call this “Stinking Thinking.” In some cases, our minds can become so “constipated” that we start to think negatively more often and won’t see our lives in a positive light. This difficulty in letting go mentally can lead to depression.

When our bowels are constipated, we cannot let go on a physical level. At the opposite end of the spectrum is diarrhea, when the body cannot stop letting go. Ultimately, what we need is for our ability to “let go” to be in balance – not too much or too little.

At the Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center in Jacksonville, we use Five Element Acupuncture to balance the Colon meridian on all these levels of energy. Whether the problem is physical or on a deeper level, we can use acupuncture to address the imbalance and correct the energy flow for the Colon meridian.

Correcting the Colon energy can help a lot of Colon conditions, including:

  • – Diarrhea
  • – Constipation
  • – Colitis
  • – Diverticulitis
  • – Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • – Crohn’s Disease
  • – Hemorrhoids
  • – Abdominal pain

If you are bleeding from your rectum (as opposed to the bleeding of a hemorrhoid), you should consult a gastroenterologist. Otherwise, if you or someone you know is experiencing any of these symptoms of imbalance of the Colon meridian, we encourage you to make an appointment for a consultation at our Center by calling (904) 296-9545.
