October was a busy, productive, wonderful month! Community outreach is important to me and I thought I would start sharing some of my experiences with you in the hope of inspiring you to do the same and/or invite you to share your own with me. I truly believe that as a business owner in Jacksonville, it is my duty to reach out, give back and make a difference wherever and whenever I can.
October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I participated in two events to mark the occasion. The amazing organization, In The Pink of Jacksonville Beach, invited me to give a talk. I presented, “Acupuncture for Managing Symptoms of Cancer Treatment” to women currently undergoing treatment. I was able to give a quick acupuncture treatment to a curious audience member and I believe the audience learned a great deal about how acupuncture can relieve the pain that sometimes accompanies treatments, as well as give them greater energy and elevate their overall well-being. A big thank you to Jeri Millard, the President of In the Pink, for inviting me to meet and talk to some of your clients.
On October 22nd, we had a team of 13 join in for the Making Strides Against Cancer Walk, organized by the American Cancer Society. The walk started in Hemming Park and was a 5K around downtown Jacksonville. It was a beautiful day, with thousands of participants and we surpassed our fundraising goal. We were interviewed by CBS Action News, as well as American Cancer Society’s film crew. Our slogan on our t-shirts read, “Surviving & Thriving.” Three of our patients, all cancer survivors, joined us and served as incredible inspiration for us all. Laura, Elise and Janice, thank you for living our slogan and showing us exactly what surviving and thriving is all about!
