We’ve all heard the phrase “eat more plants,” right? For National Vegan Month, I want to provide a better understanding as to why this is a good idea for improving your health.
A vegan diet eliminates all meat and animal products. This means your diet must rely heavily on fruits, vegetables, beans and legumes, whole grains and nuts and seeds. These whole foods contribute to a higher daily intake of certain beneficial nutrients.
Properly planned vegan diets tend to be higher in fiber, antioxidants and beneficial plant compounds. The increase in fiber helps aid in better digestion, less inflammation and more balanced blood sugars. Most of us know this, right? But did you know that a vegan diet could actually make you happier?
We all want more energy and to get a better night’s sleep. A vegan diet can help increase energy levels and improve sleep. This is because animal foods are very hard to digest, which brings down your energy levels until your body can finish processing these foods. With the increase in energy a vegan diet provides, you’ll likely feel calmer and find it easier to nod off to sleep. Better sleep can help you feel like you can get through your day with a smile on your face.
Developing a happier overall outlook with a vegan diet is a great change many people do not expect. It can also help you have better, clearer skin. Due to high antioxidant consumption, you will look incredible and notice a difference in as little as one week. Sounds like a win-win to me!
