Life Isn’t Always “Rosy” With Skin Issues: Here’s How Acupuncture Can Help

Eczema and rosacea are both chronic skin conditions. Eczema is a skin condition characterized by inflamed, dry skin resembling scales. It can be throughout the body, but typically erupts in patches in select areas such as your elbows or neck. There are seven different known types of eczema, all with varying degrees of intensity and severity. More than 31 million Americans suffer from eczema of these varying types, of all ages- from birth to old age.
Rosacea is a skin condition characterized by red, inflamed skin and pustules, typically found in the face. It has a high prevalence among adults of Northern European heritage with fair skin. Because of the diverse presentations of rosacea, the treatment approach must be individualized for each person.
While there are topical treatments recommended by dermatologists and doctors, what can one do when the eczema or rosacea “flare up”- the intense, painful itchiness and inflamed skin- lasts for days or even weeks with no relief? What happens if those topical treatments cause a flare up? That’s where acupuncture comes in!
There can be many causes for eczema and rosacea; as different as you are from the person next to you, so too is your skin condition. But one thing can be certain: there is no one main cause. It could be a number of differing factors, including family genetics, an overactive immune system, environmental factors, and stress. When a variety of different triggers are the cause, at Acupuncture and Holistic Health Center we individualize your treatment to determine whether you need acupuncture, hormone or allergy testing, herbal medicine, or natural supplements. We may recommend some dietary changes to reduce the risk of allergens or environmental irritants.
Acupuncture can be a source of great relief from the itchiness, the flakiness, the inflammation, and the swelling around the area of your eczema or rosacea. By increasing the amount of blood circulation to the area, balancing your stagnated qi and lowering your body’s acidity levels through the introduction of different ingredients and/or herbs, we can reduce the inflammation, relieve the itching, and target the root causes so that you can get relief.
