What Is Moxibustion? The Warming Therapy Your Body Will Love

If you’ve ever visited our acupuncture health center and caught the soothing scent of something gently burning, you may have been encountering something called Moxibustion! A traditional healing technique that’s been used for thousands of years to nourish, warm, and invigorate the body – as well as help enhance your acupuncture treatments.
Moxibustion, often called “moxa” for short, involves burning a cone of dried Chinese mugwort on top of specific acupuncture points. The gentle warmth from the moxa cones warms the meridians of energy, boosts circulation, and encourages your body’s natural healing response.

Many patients love moxibustion because it feels incredibly relaxing—like a deep, comforting warmth that melts tension. Clinically, we use moxa to support issues such as cold hands and feet, digestive discomfort, menstrual pain, fatigue, low immunity, and certain types of joint or muscle stiffness.
Moxa can be used on its own or combined with acupuncture to enhance your treatment results. It’s safe, non-invasive, and tailored to your specific needs—making it a powerful addition to your wellness routine.
If you’re curious about how moxibustion could support your health, we’d love to introduce you to this time-tested, deeply nourishing therapy during your next visit.
