How To Detox Your Body The Safe Way

Hi Dr. Michael here!
As people are noticing the benefits of complementary medicines, they are now turning to detoxifying their bodies. One of the most popular is a liver detox. Acupuncture has been used for centuries for the detoxification of the body and its different organs.
As an acupuncturist, I have witnessed firsthand the power of acupuncture and its ways of helping detox a person in any organ in their body. But there are other things that you need to consider to do along with acupuncture.
One of the most important things is hydration which we always want any of our patients to do, especially right after a session. You often hear that water is life, but unfortunately many of us don’t drink enough water. Staying hydrated helps flush out toxins that acupuncture has helped loosen.

Digestive Support
The second important thing to do is to focus on whole unprocessed foods in your diet. Unfortunately, a lot of our foods are overly processed, have added sugars and really are not good for you. I suggest you read the labels to make sure you know what you’re putting in your bodies. We recommend “seasonal eating” as each season matches with certain foods. An example of this would be for winter produce: root vegetables, leafy greens, citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits, squash, pomegranates, brussel sprouts and beets would be the stuff you should focus on during this time of year.
Something we also recommend is supporting your digestive system. When your digestion system is sluggish, waste and toxins load up, leaving you feeling bloated and tired. To help with that, you can start your meals with a fiber-rich food like a salad or a raw vegetable that helps start the digestion process and helps move things smoothly. Regular acupuncture treatments will also help reset your digestive tract if you are already out of alignment.
Move Your Body
Another thing we encourage you to do is to start moving around a little bit more. Meaning a little bit of exercise. I’m not telling you to go all hardcore in the gym bringing you to the brink of muscle failure. That actually can do more damage than good. If you’re not exercising regularly, start with small changes, like taking a light walk or going outside and doing light gardening.
Establish Consistency
Another important thing is to establish a consistent bedtime routine and prioritize getting your rest and sleep. Your body detoxes most effectively while you’re resting. Rest gives your organs, especially your liver, the time of energy to repair and remove the toxins that have built up.
Skin Care Detox
Last but not least, take care of your skin. Your skin is your largest organ and does a lot in the detoxing process. Don’t know how your skin detoxes? Your skin detoxifies your body by sweating and shedding dead skin cells. To help your skin detox process, exfoliation and hydration are important. A technique to gently help exfoliate your skin would be to use a loofah or a shower puff.
