Taking Care of Mental Health with Acupuncture

Mental health can be defined as a person’s psychological and emotional well-being. Our bodies are not the only element of ourselves that takes heavy loads, burdensome weight, and gets tired or strained. Our minds are delicate, and our emotional state can get equally as damaged or blunted as our bodies do from constant pressure. Pressure to perform at work/school, stressful family situations or home lives, or moments in your past that aren’t staying buried no matter how much you try can all contribute to a mentally unhealthy state of being where you’re nervous/anxious, depressed/listless, directionless, confused, overwhelmed, or just at the end of your rope.
But it does not have to be like this. Here at the Acupuncture and Holistic Health Center, we treat our patients with a holistic approach. Holistically treating someone can be defined as treating the patient with the understanding that your parts are connected to your whole. It sounds like a simple enough concept, but our healthcare system has contributed to merely treating symptoms, or parts, of a greater health problem, or whole. When you only medicate for a symptom or only treat a condition without evaluating the other, connected factors contributing to your issues, you don’t treat the patient holistically. Here at our clinic, we understand that what affects one part of you affects the other, and that builds until it’s affecting the whole body.
Mental health affects the physical health of the body, and vice versa. It becomes more difficult to have a healthy mind if you’re dealing with an unhealthy body, and it’s difficult to continue having a healthy body if your mind is struggling to function without anxious or depressive symptoms. Our licensed acupuncture practitioners and massage therapists will sit with you to determine the best way forward with your treatment so not just your symptoms of mental health decline get treated, but so that we help you create a mental environment designed for you to thrive in a healthy, holistic way. We may recommend natural herbs and supplements that have been promoting mental rest and acuity for centuries with no danger of dependency and little to no risk of side effects. We may also recommend lifestyle and dietary changes to promote things like optimized sleep, energy balance, better digestion, and regulated hormonal health that can contribute to better mental health.
