Tips for Staying Well During Spring Season
I’m back with a few tips to keep you well during the Spring season. Spring is undoubtedly beautiful, but it can trigger many uncomfortable symptoms – especially for those with allergies. If the wood energy (the element associated with spring) stagnates, it sparks anger, agitation, and even depression. It can manifest through symptoms like headaches, gastrointestinal issues, insomnia, and more.
Let’s talk about allergies today. Did you know that more than 50 million Americans suffer from various allergies? Allergic rhinitis is the single most common chronic disease experienced by Americans – and of these 50 million sufferers, 35 million, or 17% of the population, have allergic rhinitis, more popularly known as “hayfever.” Even more shocking is that allergies in developed countries are sharply rising, and Western scientists don’t know why! According to the CDC, the percentage of adults with any allergy is 31.8%.
What causes hay fever?
Hay fever is a mistaken immune system reaction to airborne particles that generally do not cause the body any trouble. These particles may be pollen, animal dander, dust, mold, or insects and their feces. Again, most people inhale these without a problem, but those with allergies inhale them, and the body reacts as if a pathogen is invading! Que the sneezing, runny nose, red, itchy, watering eyes, headache & even asthmatic contraction of the bronchioles of the lungs leading to panting, wheezing & coughing.
Western medicine treats hay fever and other respiratory allergies with antihistamines and decongestants, often over-the-counter, but these drugs only mask the symptoms and don’t treat the root cause.
The good news is that there’s a natural solution. Acupuncture and herbal medicine are time-tested alternatives to Western drugs when treating hay fever and other allergies.
Regarding hay fever, holistic care is divided into two stages. First, during the acute attack, your practitioner at AHHC will try to alleviate your discomfort with relief-care acupuncture and herbs. Then, between allergy attacks, we’ll continue to focus on the root cause of your imbalance with maintenance acupuncture care to keep your meridians clear, offering nutritional advice and prescribing herbal therapies.
Don’t suffer from allergies for a minute longer. Let’s treat the root cause.
