Happy Spring to all our dear patients! Happily, spring has arrived in North Florida.
Spring is an exciting season of the year. It is about the power of rebirth, renewal, and growth… not just our physical regeneration, but also a renewal of our spirit of hope.
In Five Element Acupuncture, spring is associated with the Wood Element. This element contains the same hope for renewal and growth as the qualities of spring. Just as the Wood Element and the spring season have these qualities in nature, we embody these qualities of the Wood Element within ourselves. This energy is often associated with the ability to plan positive changes in our lives, chart our personal growth, and make or create new habits and plans. It enhances the vitality of our energy and the expansion of our abilities. Connected to the emotion of anger, sometimes noticing that we become frustrated, angry, or have a feeling of being directionless can signify an imbalance in the meridians that are associated with the Wood element.
Wood contains the two meridians: Liver and Gall Bladder. The Liver meridian oversees our planning, while the Gall Bladder oversees our decision making. How often must we catch ourselves at a crossroads, unable to see what direction to take, especially in a season that requires many decisions to be made. When we cannot decide what direction to take, we become irritated, angry, frustrated, or quick to throw our hands up and stop caring. Our inherent ability is to be flexible yet sturdy. But if the Wood Element within us becomes compromised, this leaves our stability fragile, brittle, and breakable. So, our ability to make good plans and healthy decisions is directly related to how healthy our Liver and Gall Bladder meridians are. Five Element Acupuncture treatment balances these meridians to support the functions of these vital organs, both physically and mentally.
Cleaning up your diet, exercising and stretching, and spring cleaning the space we exist in are all ways that we can practice holistically rebalancing our Wood element, but do not forget how acupuncture can also create balance in our Wood Element. By opening the flow of energy in our Liver and Gall Bladder meridians, we can stabilize our decision-making and make the best plans possible. Our emotional state becomes more focused and aware. Our mindfulness is channeled much more easily into productive tasks and our ability for personal growth expands.
The best time of year to balance the Liver and Gall Bladder is during their season, springtime. So, we recommend that all our patients come in during this important season for a “Spring Cleaning.” After all, we tune up our car engine every 3 months, and we need to do likewise for our body’s vital Qi energy. We should take at least as diligent care of our bodies as we do our car!
If you haven’t scheduled your Spring tune-up yet, we encourage you to take this opportunity for self-care. Call us today at the Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center at (904) 296-9545.
